About Community Dental Service
Community Dental Service in Scunthorpe provides dental care for people who are unable to use general dental services, including those with disabilities or special needs. The service is designed for patients who may struggle to access treatment elsewhere, including children with high levels of dental problems and people with physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or mental health problems. Wheelchair users and bariatric patients can also be accommodated. For patients who need additional support, the practice states it has the facilities to offer conscious sedation and general anaesthetic where necessary. Staff can also undertake home visits when patients are unable to attend a hospital or community dental appointment. Where possible, people should be treated within general dental services, and the team provides more specialist care for those who need it. The service also has a responsibility to monitor and improve the dental health of the local population. Referrals are accepted from other dentists, doctors, nurses, social workers and other health professionals, helping link patients with the right level of care across the community.
