Dental Access Centres in Swindon provide NHS dental treatment for Swindon and Wiltshire residents who do not have a regular dentist and need urgent care. The service focuses on helping patients with urgent dental pain receive an appointment within 48 hours, and while it will always try to offer an appointment as close to home as possible, travel may be necessary to see a dentist within that timeframe. This service is not able to offer routine treatment or courses of treatment at this time. Dental Access Centres charge in line with NHS Dental Charging Bands, and appointments are arranged through the Dental Helpline during Monday to Friday hours, with out-of-hours support available via NHS 111. If someone experiences uncontrollable bleeding following dental extractions, rapidly increasing swelling around the throat or eye, or severe trauma to the face and jaws, the guidance is to go immediately to the nearest Emergency Department. The centre also signposts extra support for people with disabilities, sensory loss or impairment, and for those who do not have English as a first language.
