Why it's hard to get an NHS dentist

NHS practices agree a set amount of NHS work each year. When it's used up, many stop taking new NHS patients until the next contract year, so places open and close all the time.

1. Call and ask for an NHS appointment, not just "an appointment".
2. Widen the search. You don't register with a dentist the way you do with a GP, so any NHS practice in England can see you.
3. Ask your local NHS. Your integrated care board buys NHS dentistry locally and can tell you who has space.
